Thatz a very nice radio! Somethings I wouldn’t tinker with either.
Thanks! If you feel like it, check out some of the series. I have 24 videos showing what I did, how I did it and all the mistakes and things I learned.
LOL, I made plenty of mistake too! Some hasn’t been corrected yet.
Also, the RCA 262 I have was sold to me because a radio repairman REFUSED to work on it as it was “too hard” to work on. It would take up “too much” of his time. This was an experienced guy with 30 plus years experience! So In my estimation, if you are unsure of what to do, either practice up on a much easier radio first, or better yet take the radio to a repairman who can actually not refuse to work on it.
I have an RCA Victor Duo model 341 radio/phono console, which is also a 1934. 1934 was the first year that RCA used the “Magic Brain” radio. On my set, the phonograph works, but not the record changer, or radio. I had George Epple rebuild the pickup, so it has great sound with old 78′s. The dial, knobs, and chassis of your radio look just like mine, so I’m following your videos. I tested my tubes and the 75 was bad. I’m hoping that you show how to replace the capacitors. Good luck!
That RCA Duo model 341 is terrific! I made a 4 part video on how to replace caps. I just did an easy one. This is a hard radio to work on. They have capacitor boards in it that have to be unsoldered somewhat and then worked on. All electrolytics will need to be replaced. Unsolder all leads form the old electrolytics and install new high quality electrolytics made by a non chinese company. Put in a terminal strip if possible to solder to.
I forgot, what I do is solder new electrolytics under the chassis. some people restuff the old ones, but I think there is plenty of space to place modern equlivalents under the chassis. Triple check polarity of the new electrolytics. Any hesitations, I would take it to a professional and spend the money. The RCA Duo 341 is worth the expense.
Another cool set! Way to go! Can you ramp the light up a bit in your videos? It’s really hard to see the detail… That looks like a great project, full of promise, and I’m sure you’ll kick it’s ass like you did with the 810K! Also, I promise I will get into my 810T when cash flow improves. Looking forward to the work!Best, Brian
Thanks Man! Try viewing it in HD, it looks better.I had all the lights on in the day time and the halogen work light right on the radio, so I’m guessing the 60 dollar camera isn’t the greatest. I will bring a floor lamp in also next time I shoot in the piano room. Check out part 2 and let me know what you think. Thanks!
You were correct. I ohmed out all transformers in circuit and it looks like they are OK. I had one bad detector coil with one bad winding that can be easily rewound, or maybe I can wind another coil and insert it into the existing coil. What do you think is better? Winding a coil and inserting it into the existing coil certaining is a lot easier. Regarding the whole project,It’s much better than I thought!
